Mesimvria Winery

The Region and Its History

The winery and vineyards of Mesimvria Winery are located in Nea Mesimvria, Thessaloniki.
Nea Mesimvria lies northwest of the city of Thessaloniki, just 20 km away, and is built on hills at an average altitude of 200 meters.

Viticulture has flourished in this area for many years. Greek populations displaced from Eastern Rumelia settled in Nea Mesimvria, bringing with them their experience and passion for grape cultivation. The soil and climate conditions of the region have significantly contributed to the growth of viticulture, allowing it to thrive over the years.

The Winery

Mesimvria Winery was founded in 1996 by Periklis Drachas and Theodoros Paraskevopoulos, with a vision to highlight the viticultural potential of the region through the creation of high-quality wines. Both Periklis and Theodoros spent their childhood years among these very vineyards and understood early on that in order to achieve excellence, intensive farming had to be abandoned. Instead, they focused on cultivating quality grapes tailored to the unique capabilities of each vineyard plot.

THE WINERY

Our Facilities

The Mesimvria Winery is situated at the 2nd km of the Anchialos – Nea Mesimvria road, right in the heart of a vineyard.
The winery features a large grape reception area, from which the fruit is transferred to the production area. This space includes stainless steel tanks that receive and process the juice and later the wine.

All tanks are connected to a cooling system, which is monitored and regulated daily to maintain optimal temperatures.

White and rosé wines mature mainly in stainless steel tanks, while red wines are aged for one year in oak barrels in the cellar. In addition to the barrel cellar, there is also a bottle-aging cellar that allows the evolution of the wines over time to be observed and evaluated.

The winery houses a modern bottling and packaging unit, operating daily with a skilled team. Throughout the entire production process, daily laboratory analyses are conducted to monitor the quality of both the juice and the wine, using a fully equipped laboratory.

Mesimvria Winery complies with all the standards and requirements of the ISO 22000 food safety and quality management system.

OUR PEOPLE

With Passion and Love

At Mesimvria Winery , we believe that wine presentation is incomplete without a proper tasting experience.

For this reason, we have designed a visitor-friendly winery that includes a welcoming reception area and a wine tasting room, where visitors can also enjoy video presentations.

THE VINEYARDS

The Soul of Our Wines

The vineyards of Mesimvria Winery are located in the area of Nea Mesimvria, close to the winery itself. The soils are sandy-loamy, allowing the vine root systems to grow deep, while also ensuring good aeration and drainage. The lack of an irrigation network in the area naturally limits yields, which enhances grape ripening and ultimately improves quality.

The vineyards are arranged in a linear planting system to maximize leaf aeration and optimize sunlight exposure.

The varieties cultivated include native Greek grapes such as Roditis, Malagousia, Assyrtiko, Muscat of Alexandria, Mavrodaphne, and Vidiano, as well as international varieties like Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Muscat Hamburg.
